Emida
Pop. 100

This settlement originated in 1896 with the arrival of the East, Miller, and Dawson families. The ingenious homesteaders combined letters from all three family names for an original town name. An unknown word trickster also suggested that the little town didn’t have much to offer and wasn’t worth “a dime.” Spell “a dime” backwards, and suddenly you have Emida. Despite this play on words, Emida is recognized for its down-home bar and cafe where tourists and strangers are treated with the hospitality and kindness of a neighbor.
