Established just two miles north of the Oregon Trail in the early 1860s, Middleton is located at the midway point of Boise City and Keeney’s ferry at the mouth of the Boise River. As a result of its location, it incorporated in 1865 and became an important stopping point for weary travelers. Today, the town is recognized as one of the state’s oldest settlements, and a post office has operated here since 1866.
