Burley
Pop. 9,316

Referred to locally as “Big River Country,” Burley lies near the intersection of five pioneer trails: the Oregon Trail, California Trial, Salt Lake City-Oregon Trail, Salt Lake City-California Trail, and the Hudspeth Cutoff. The community was established in 1904, and David Burley originally named the site, “Commerce.” Mr. Burley served as an agent for the Oregon Short Line Railroad, and the town’s name was later changed in honor of him and his significant contributions to the local potato industry’s growth and success. The community has served as the Cassia County seat since 1918, and together with Rupert, is recognized as Mini-Cassia Country.
