Macks Inn

William H. Mack founded this resort town in 1921, and a post office was established here in 1923. The town honors the long legacy of its founding father. Mack, nicknamed “Doc” immigrated from Germany to America at age 12 and worked with his uncle in two San Francisco bakeries. After learning the English language, Mack married and enrolled in medical school. With years of studying, Mack earned his optometry degree, and he moved his family to Rexburg to open an optometry store. Although Mack’s business was highly successful, he soon realized that he was more passionate about the outdoors. He applied for and accepted a position as a regional game warden and was assigned to the Island Park area. While there, Mack and his family developed a small resort area that would eventually bear his name.
